===== Bio ===== | ===== Bio =====
| Chitin are an exclusive splinter faction of the Toxic cult, its members focusing their
| obsession on one specific poison and the animal that produces it. Deep in the wastes
| that the Skarrd call home, massive insects prey upon the slow and weak. One such creature
| known to the Skarrd is the Blade Beetle. Nearly the size of a human, this monster digs
| itself into holes in the dusty earth and ambushes its prey. Sensing movement in the soil,
| it launches itself from its hole when it can tell that the intended victim is near, lashing
| out with scything forelegs and thick, wedge-shaped mandibles, both of which ooze
| toxic venom. | ||
| |||
| The Blade Beetle is the object of the Chitin’s obsession, and they model
| themselves in many ways after the formidable beast. Prospective initiates
| into the Chitin sect must pass a basic but extremely difficult test in order
| to be accepted. Armed with a simple long bladed knife and no other
| weapons or armor, the candidate must find and kill a Blade Beetle
| single-handedly. The monster’s natural weapons are the greatest
| challenge, but even if one can avoid its attacks, delivering a
| killing blow is no easy feat. Its entire body is encased in a
| tough and knobby exoskeleton, forcing the hunter to
| drive the knife through one of the rare gaps in
| its armor and into a vital location.
| If the candidate succeeds in killing
| the beast without being killed
| herself, then the entire clan will
| help her carve the beast to craft her
| equipment from its carcass.
| |||
| The various chitinous plates
| that cover the Blade Beetle’s
| smaller leg segments serve as the
| Chitin’s only true armor; she
| will wear no other. Most
| importantly, though,
| are the mandibles. | ||
| Cut properly from the | ||
| beast’s massive head,
| they serve with very | ||
| little modification as
| the paired cleavers for
| which the Chitin are | ||
| so rightly feared. | ||
| These weapons | ||
| will continue to | ||
| exude the deadly | ||
| toxin of the creature for
| months, at which time they
| grow brittle and break. Most Chitin will hunt and kill another Blade Beetle
| long before this happens, so as never to be without their weapon of choice. In
| battle the members of the Chitin sect mimic their patron creature, attacking with
| swift, decisive, and implacable motions. They waste little energy, and their skill
| is impressive and terrifying to behold.
| |||
| ==== Leisa ==== | ||
| |||
| A formidable hunter stalks the desolation of
| the North. A lifetime of hardship and pain has
| tempered her to be an ultimate survivor. She kills
| with the deftest of skill and uses her lightning quick
| reflexes to evade retaliation. The Chitin Leisa presses her
| prowess as a hunter and killer across the Samarian deserts.
| |||
| In her adolescence, Leisa underwent a brutal revoking ceremony and was
| exiled from her people. In this way she became symbolic of the ostracism
| suffered by all Baniss, and could no longer approach another without risking
| being attacked and killed. During the ceremony Leisa’s Tribal Father dealt her
| a damaging slash from his sword that destroyed many of the muscles in her
| jaw as well as her tongue. As the other members of the tribe walked away from
| her, Leisa picked up a burning log from the fire and placed it inside her mouth
| to cauterize the wound. This left Leisa’s mouth a mangled mass of scar tissue
| and robbed her of the ability to speak.
| |||
| After leaving her tribe Leisa began to hunt Blade Beetles for food. Unable
| to approach other Skarrd she could not enter the ranks of the Toxic Cult
| or undergo the induction rights of the Chitin. However as the years passed
| rumors and legends of Leisa’s murderous prowess have spread amongst the
| Skarrd tribes. Her reputation is solidified as she often appears out of the sands
| to assist a tribe in combat for a brief while before disappearing into the desert
| alone once again. When she was spotted in the deep dunes killing a giant
| Blade Beetle as big as a small truck the leaders of the Chitin Cult gathered and
| bestowed upon her the initiation to their ranks without her presence.
| |||
| Whereas many Chitin hunt with the aid of Bola packs, Leisa, as the exile
| incarnate, cannot. Regularly hunting Blade Beetles by herself, weaving in
| between the animal’s deadly jaws and razor sharp legs, has granted Leisa
| superior reflexes over her peers. Many Forsaken warriors have made the
| mistake of trying to kill Leisa from a distance only to have their shot miss and
| be eviscerated in the inevitable counterattack that follows from her poisonous
| cleavers. | ||
| |||
| When other Skarrd do see her she need only smile cruelly and open her lips,
| baring the burned mass of scar tissue that comprises her tongue and mouth.
| Given the wide knowledge of her tale, no further introduction is required.
| Her name is Leisa. | ||
