Bio

Buzz-blades are the most common warriors of the Skarrd, comprised generally of any tribe member not already drafted into another special clan or cult. All of the Skarrd fight; none would tolerate being forced to miss a battle against their enemies. The warpacks that the Buzz-blades assemble in are the same groups they travel in when they set out on scavenging expeditions, which are their primary function in the Skarrd tribes. They carry the most basic equipment, usually crude spiked clubs or similar bludgeoning weapons and a simple but effective shield. Nearly all of their equipment is crafted from the very stuff that they scavenge, random bits of machinery, sheets of old metal, and discarded remnants of aborted construction efforts.

Nothing has shaped the Skarrd as much as the wastelands which were their origin. They begin learning the skills of survival at the youngest possible age, and are instructed to use whatever they can find or pillage. Unless under direct orders from their Father, even families within the same tribe will not share their meager goods with others, and individuals resent even their own kin. This forces each small and suspicious group of Skarrd tribesmen to make the most of every asset they possess—particularly their children. At mere months of age, young Skarrd accompany their parents out into the hostile wastes on salvage expeditions. As soon as they can retain such information, they learn how to spot, collect, pack and transport any scavenged loot. At the same time, they often receive their first lessons in fighting, as the Skarrd are fiercely zealous in the defense of their finds. Opposing groups will often arrive at the same salvage site at the same time, resulting in a fight to the death more often than not. Thus scavenging and battle go hand in hand for the Skarrd. As they grow quickly to adulthood, they either learn to become effective fighters or are slain in the wastelands. The Skarrd have no special schools or programs to train their basic warriors; their lives are trial enough.

Charity’s Might

Those Buzz-blades chosen by the Sister of Charity to earn the honour of becoming a “Might” warrior are a unique breed. Without exception they have already proven to possess natural resilience and strength, but the treatment by the Sister with different hormones increases that many times. These hormonal ingredients contain steroids and other components stimulating the growth of muscles while simultaneously reducing body fat. There are other developments augmenting these physical changes, such as tremendous increase of aggression and being subjected to emotional imbalance, which transform the warrior into a hulking brute. Charity’s Might Buzz-blades become ferocious, almost beast like inhuman warriors, pausing at nothing to tear their enemies apart. But the glory of the Might is short lived. The enormous growth enhancements cause different cancer types to assault the body and the extremities of the warrior, especially the arms, the face and the forehead, forcing grotesque and massive deformities. The pain suffered by these alterations increases their rage and their bestiality even more.

Charity’s Zeal

Trembling and shaking, the Charity’s Zeal troopers look almost miserable and lost when standing still, resembling nothing so much as a drug addict eager for getting his next fix. Slender and gaunt these creatures will do anything to please their mistress, the Sister of Charity.

The Sisters who “adopt” the warriors to augment them in this “Zeal” fashion will balk at no method of enhancing their speed and agility. But grafting simple mechanical devices into their muscles to augment their movement apparatus is just the beginning. Extraordinary biochemical treatment of their nutrition changes their circulatory system, causing it to run faster than that of any other human being. The result is the typical behavioral edginess of the Zeal, along with enormous speed and astonishing agility.

The drawback is their voracious appetite; as a side effect of their treatment, the Zeal Buzz-blades are able to consume only that food which has been treated with the Sister’s biochemical concoction, making them totally dependent and fixated on their mistress. No two Sisters use the same components, which makes the loss of the mistress also the certain death for her pets. Because of the tremendous speed of their circulatory systems, it is usual that the body starts to feed on their own resources, turning the Zeal into haggard and sick demi-humans.
